Our Mission
The Miami Patriot strives to promote intellectual freedom, conservative values, and a patriotic spirit among the student body at Miami University. We seek to foster civil dialogue and provide honest news and hard-hitting opinion as an alternative to the echo chambers that obstruct the free flow of ideas.
Purpose, History, and Values
Founded in 2021, in the aftermath of a contentious election, political unrest, and a spike in the power of cancel culture, The Miami Patriot was created to be a voice of conservatism and a defender of free expression at Miami University. For too long, the information gatekeepers on campus have abused their monopoly on the spread of ideas to intimidate and silence those who dare to challenge mainstream orthodoxy. This can only end through the development of alternative, independent media, and The Miami Patriot is dedicated to independence.
The great conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer once said, “You’re betraying your whole life if you don’t say what you think, and you don’t say it honestly and bluntly.” In the current social and political climate, it can be hard to be honest and blunt about what you believe, but we owe it to our system of patriotic and traditional values and our conservative philosophy to do exactly that. Most of all, we owe it to those who have come before us and sacrificed so that we could think and speak freely. For these reasons, the staff of The Miami Patriot pledges to maintain an unwavering commitment to providing an outlet for students who have been silenced or ostracized for their beliefs.
